Wendell Hudson

Hudon, a native of Birmingham, Ala., played at Parker H.S., which won the first integrated state High School Basketball Tournament in 1969 (season record of 33-1). He was an American basketball player in 1973 and the University of Alabama's first African American scholarship athlete of any sport. Hudson led the SEC in rebounding in 1972, led the SEC in scoring in 1973, and averaged a double double with 19.2 points and 12.0 rebounds in his career. He was the Most Valuable Player in the SEC in 1972 and '73. He was drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls and in the second round of the ABA Draft by the Memphis Tams. He was a successful coach for 22 years and athletic director for eight years before returning to the University of Alabama in 2003 as an associate athletic director.
